The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced openings for various positions within the Superintendent, Inspector, and Assistant Cadres. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for these roles under the outlined categories. The agency has promised that it will be a transparent and fair recruitment process for eligible candidates.
NCS Recruitment 2024
NCS vacancies are majorly open in two categories, which are subdivided into various job roles. Candidates are to pick a suitable kob role according to their academic and professional qualifications.
We have Category A – Customs Superintendent Cadre, which includes ASCII (Support Staff) – CONSOL 08. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in any of the following fields, accompanied by an NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate: Accounts, Audit, Building, Communication, Computer/ICT, Electrical Engineering, Health Information Management, Marine, Nursing, Nutrition/Dietary, Secretarial Studies, Sports, Stores/Procurement, Quantity Surveying, Actuarial Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Law.
We also have AIC (Support Staff) – CONSOL 06, which requires an OND, NCE, or equivalent qualification from recognised polytechnics or institutions in these fields: Accounts, Audit, Building, Communication/Camera Handling/Photography, Computer/ICT, Electrical Engineering, Health Information Management, Health Service Administration, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmaceutical Technology, Marine, Nursing, Nutrition/Dietary, and Secretarial Studies.
The third vacancy in this category is the Customs Assistant (Support Staff) – CONSOL 03, 04, which requires a First School Leaving Certificate, Junior Secondary School Certificate, Senior Secondary School Certificate, or equivalent, alongside appropriate Trade Test certificates. Positions available include Clerical Assistants.
In Category B – General Duty roles, we have Customs Inspector Cadre roles, Assistant Inspector – CONSOL 06 (OND, NCE, or equivalent qualifications obtained from recognised institutions, Customs Assistant Grade II – CONSOL 04 ( SSCE/NECO or GCE qualifications with credits in at least three subjects, including English and Mathematics, at one sitting. Alternatively, passes in four subjects, including English and Mathematics, at one sitting or five subjects in not more than two sittings are acceptable), and Customs Assistant Grade III – CONSOL 03 (evidence of full course completion at a government-approved secondary school or equivalent qualification, alongside Trade Test certificates, where applicable).
Nigeria Customs Service Recruitment Requirements
- Candidates must Nigerian citizens by birth or descent.
- Meet the height requirements: males should be at least 1.7 metres tall, and females should be at least 1.64 metres tall.
- Males must have a fully expanded chest measurement of at least 0.87 metres.
- Be certified physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer.
- Applicants for the Inspector and Customs Assistant Cadres must be between 18 and 25 years old, while those applying for the Superintendent Cadre must not exceed 30 years of age.
- Be free from physical or mental disabilities.
- Have good character and no criminal record.
- Be computer literate (an added advantage).
- Present a certificate of state of origin signed by the Chairman/Secretary of their Local Government. Certificates endorsed by Liaison Officers will not be accepted.
How to Apply for Nigeria Customs Service Recruitment
Interested candidates should submit their applications online through the Nigeria Customs Service Recruitment Portal at www.vacancy.customs.gov.ng. Applications must be completed free of charge. Follow these steps:
- Visit the NCS recruitment portal.
- Click on “Vacancies” on the homepage.
- Fill out the appropriate application form.
- Submit the completed form online.
Applications submitted in hard copy at Customs Headquarters in Abuja or any other location will not be considered. Only positions advertised will be processed.
After the online submission, applicants will receive an acknowledgment containing a reference number. This number must be quoted in all future correspondence.
Deadline: The submission of applications closes on May 2024.
Candidates will be shortlisted based on the certificates presented during the application process. Successful candidates will be recruited strictly according to the submitted credentials.
