The Federal Ministry of Environment has announced a call for applications for the position of National Project Coordinator for the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project. This World Bank-assisted initiative aims to increase sustainable landscape management practices in Northern Nigeria’s targeted watersheds. The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project is a pivotal intervention designed to address Nigeria’s growing environmental challenges. With the backing of the World Bank, the project focuses on advancing sustainable practices in the face of climate change, particularly in Northern Nigeria. It seeks to improve watershed management and mitigate the adverse impacts of semi-arid climate conditions.

This ambitious project underscores the urgency of a national effort to build resilience and reduce the vulnerabilities of communities in semi-arid regions. The selected National Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in the realisation of ACReSAL’s objectives by ensuring seamless project execution and collaboration across local, national, and international platforms.

The Ministry expects the ideal candidates ndidate to be proactive, pleasant-mannered, and energetic, with excellent communication skills. The role requires someone capable of taking initiative, demonstrating leadership, and thriving under minimal supervision.

The National Project Coordinator will oversee the following responsibilities:

  • Planning, executing, coordinating, and evaluating all project activities at local, regional, national, and international levels.
  • Reporting regularly on project progress and challenges.
  • Ensuring adherence to World Bank guidelines for project implementation.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders and managing multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.

Federal Ministry of Environment Recruitment Requirements

Applicants must meet the following:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, geography, management, economics, social sciences, regional planning, or a related field. A master’s degree or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
  • At least five years of experience in project management, preferably in a related field. Familiarity with World Bank procurement guidelines and expertise in environmental or watershed management is an advantage. Experience at the Director or General Manager level in a Federal Ministry, Department, or Agency (MDA) is also beneficial.
  • Strong planning, communication, and writing skills.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Digital communications experience.
  • Human resource management skills, with the ability to recruit, motivate, and supervise team members.
  • High energy levels and motivation and a strong commitment to reducing poverty and advancing sustainable development.
  • Excellent analytical skills and sound judgment.
  • Strategic thinking capabilities and a track record of managing quality control.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
  • A supportive team spirit, passion for results, and enthusiasm for mentoring and knowledge sharing.
