Awareness was on full blast with the 72 hour marathon Know Your Genotype Campaign (KYG Campaigns) i.e. free genotype testing and counselling which spanned locations in Apo resettlement, Kubwa and Garki in Abuja.
Because we believe in the power of numbers, SCAF Lagos and the Sickle Cell Foundation went on a SCD community outreach in Ijede area of Ikorodu and the turn out was impressive with over 500 free genotype tests, genetic counselling and screening done.
SCAF Lagos took it a notch higher by participating in an all Sickle cell supporting NGO coalition “Red Umbrella walk” which was excellent with major sightings from media, SC warriors and celebrities like Honourable Desmond Elliot who helped passionately to champion the cause. SCAF Lagos was tasked with a blood drive in Agege in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service of the state to talk to indigenes on the importance of regular non-remunerated blood donation and the feedback was positive.
SCAF Abuja, without pumping the brakes ensured that the beneficiaries and warriors under her care were not left out as the “Warriors Circle” forum was organized with the theme “Spirit Indestructible” Nura’s story in order to enable warriors learn from seasoned medical experts and experienced warriors in the FCT on the Sickle Cell Disease nutrition, first response and emotional health safety. They left the event with free drugs and a renewed sense of hope and survival.
