"Thank you for taking time to visit our website. It is our goal to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait. We also want to provide you with the most current and useful information available about sickle cell disease"
The Know Your Genotype Campaign (KYGC) entails carrying out free genotype testing, awareness and counselling in the six area councils of the FCT. Persons discovered to have sickel cell disorder are placed on our drug delivery plan and those with the trait are sent regular reminders. We work closely with the Nigerian Red Cross, Area Council heads, Local Healthcare Centres and Community heads.
Our Olympic Styled activity - SCAFlympics infuses sporting activities in its Know Your Genotype Campaign (KYGC) which is carrried out both in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Bwari Area Council. This event is aimed at promoting healthy living within these regions by encouraging healthy inter-district or inter-school (within the Nigerian Law School) competition. Participants patake in various sporting activities alongside our free genotype and counselling sessions.
This commenced with the creation of Sickle Cell Clubs in 20 Public Secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Indicating that we worked with schools across the various area councils in Abuja. In participation with the Federal Ministry of Heath, Ministry of Education and the FCT Secondary Education board we were able to commence this scheme.
Students at various schools have also been tested (with parental consent) to asertain their genotype. Those found to have sickle cell are provided with regular drugs and those from indigent homes are placed on scholarships.

These images capture the true essence, purpose and importance of the Sickle Cell Aid Foundation (SCAF). I It’s hard to believe that over 3 years have passed since the establishment of SCAF in Nigeria. What began as an idea to improve awareness on Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD) and ensure enhanced, dedicated care for persons with SCD, has materialized into a recognized advocacy organisation in Nigeria. We are incredibly proud of what SCAF has accomplished within a short span of time, and we could not have done it without support from our sponsors and hands on help from dedicated volunteers and members.
